Ceramic Fibre in Service: Design It So It Stays Put
Blanket is light and flexible, but a lining still needs controlled compression, sound joints, suitable anchors, and protection from velocity and handling damage.

Ceramic fibre can turn a heavy insulating build into a fast, low-mass installation. That advantage also explains its limits. A light fibrous material does not enjoy abrasion, direct mechanical abuse, or high-velocity gas unless the system is designed for those conditions.
Joints need compression
Blanket and module systems rely on controlled compression to close joints as the lining heats and moves. Loose butt joints can open into direct heat paths. Excessive compression wastes material and can distort anchors or surrounding details.
Arrange joints so they do not create a straight path to the shell. Stagger blanket layers, follow the module layout, and treat corners and penetrations as designed details rather than leftover spaces.
Anchors live in a temperature gradient
Anchor alloy, geometry, spacing, and exposure determine reliability. The hot end may see a very different temperature and atmosphere from the shell end. Anchors should hold the lining without creating avoidable thermal bridges or point loads.
Weld quality and substrate condition matter. Verify anchor attachment before covering it, because buried optimism is difficult to inspect.
Flow can defeat softness
High gas velocity, entrained dust, flame impingement, and frequent contact can erode fibre. Boards, rigidisers, coatings, modules, or a dense hot-face layer may be needed. The correct answer depends on whether the fibre is backup insulation, a clean hot face, or part of a composite lining.
Fibre performs best when the design respects what makes it useful: low mass, low conductivity, and flexibility, not abrasion resistance.
Handle and install responsibly
Keep material dry and packaged until use. Cut with appropriate tools and control dust using the product safety information, ventilation, housekeeping, and required personal protective equipment. Do not sweep dry dust into the air.
Inspect operating linings for open joints, detached sections, damaged hot faces, and anchor-related movement. For blanket, board, module, paper, and custom fibre sizes, match the form and grade to the actual service.
