Air Setting Refractory Cement Grades: Specify the Exact Grade

A broad cement family can span different chemistries and temperatures; select a defined grade before approval.

An air setting refractory cement family may cover several alumina levels and temperature ratings. A range across the family is useful for screening, but it does not mean every bag meets the highest value in that range. A purchase order should identify the grade that will actually be supplied.

Define the duty first

State the application, maximum expected temperature, atmosphere, adjacent refractory, and whether the material is used for jointing, coating, or another purpose. Ask for the exact grade's chemistry, grain size, setting behaviour, and recommended preparation. A family-level datasheet cannot replace a grade-specific approval when these properties matter.

Keep installation instructions with the order

Confirm water or liquid addition, working time, joint or layer thickness, curing, and dry-out requirements for that grade. Do not assume instructions from a different cement or mortar apply. Check storage and shelf life against the planned installation date.

The Royal Set Air Setting Cement range shows family-level values. Contact Royal with the intended grade and service conditions to confirm a specific selection.
