Custom Refractory Grade Approval: From Sample to Production
A custom grade needs agreed acceptance values, installation trials, and batch controls before routine supply.

A custom refractory grade may be designed around one furnace zone, but a promising laboratory sample is not yet a production approval. The buyer and supplier should agree which properties will be measured and what counts as an acceptable result before ordering the full quantity.
Freeze the specification basis
Record chemistry, maximum grain size, installation method, water or liquid addition, density, strength, and dimensional change with their test temperatures. Mark which figures are targets and which are contractual limits. Keep the approved sample formulation and its revision identifiable.
Check installation, not only chemistry
Run a representative casting, gunning, or jointing trial with the intended equipment and crew. Observe workability, rebound or finish, curing, and dry-out behaviour. If the method changes, repeat the checks that depend on it rather than assuming the sample remains equivalent.
Control production batches
Retain a release record tying each supplied batch to the approved formulation and acceptance tests. Royal's Custom products can be reviewed with your lining conditions and drawing before setting a trial plan.
