Insulating Fire Brick Grade and Size: Keep Both on the Order

Dimensions alone cannot identify an insulating brick; confirm the grade, lining position, and shape.

Two insulating bricks can share the same 230 × 115 × 75 mm dimensions and still have different density, strength, and temperature capability. A replacement order that lists only size may put the wrong grade into the wall.

Identify the lining position

Record whether the brick is on the hot face, in a backup layer, or around a door or burner opening. State the expected temperature at that position and any load or abrasion. If a grade name such as IS-7 or IS-8 appears in the drawing, confirm the supplier's exact product interpretation before ordering.

Check shape as well as size

Standard, side taper, end taper, and arch units can have similar overall dimensions but different contact faces. Photograph a sample with its orientation marked, or provide a dimensioned drawing. Confirm how many of each shape belong in the repair area.
