Plastic Refractory for UAE Furnace Repairs: What to Specify Before Ordering

A useful UAE enquiry identifies the furnace zone, operating exposure, repair geometry, installation method, quantity, delivery location, and shutdown date before a grade is selected.

A request for plastic refractory in the UAE often begins with a temperature and a quantity. Those two numbers help, but they do not define the repair. The material still has to match the equipment, damaged zone, existing lining, exposure, installation method, and shutdown plan.

The fastest route to a useful technical response is a short, factual brief. Here is what to include before asking a supplier to recommend a grade.

Identify the equipment and exact zone

Name the furnace or process unit, then narrow the request to the actual repair area: wall, roof, burner opening, door surround, hearth edge, duct, or another defined zone. Two areas in the same furnace can see different temperatures, abrasion, flame impingement, atmosphere, and mechanical movement.

Photographs and a simple marked-up drawing are often more useful than a long general description. Remove customer names, asset numbers, addresses, and other sensitive information before sharing files outside the project team.

State normal and peak operating conditions

Provide the normal operating temperature, credible peak temperature, fuel or heat source, process atmosphere, and any contact with ash, slag, metal, alkali, or high-velocity gas. A maximum service-temperature listing is a screening value; it is not a complete selection rule.

Royal's published plastic refractory range includes grades with listed service temperatures from 1400°C to 1700°C, plus ROYAL PLAST F-45 AB at 1500°C and SUPER ALX-AB at 1600°C. The suitable grade still depends on the full exposure and lining design.

Describe the existing lining and damage

State whether the repair meets brick, castable, plastic refractory, fibre, or metal. Add the known chemistry or grade of the existing hot face when available. Explain whether the observed problem is cracking, spalling, abrasion, erosion, chemical attack, anchor failure, or physical impact.

The material choice should address the failure mechanism. Covering a damaged surface without understanding why it failed can move the problem rather than solve it.

Give repair dimensions, not only tonnes

For each repair area, provide length, width, and intended installed thickness. Note corners, penetrations, anchors, curves, and overhead work. These details affect quantity planning, access, forming, and the practical installation sequence.

If the quantity is still being calculated, say so. A supplier can review a material take-off more responsibly when the underlying dimensions and allowances are visible.

Confirm how the material will be installed

Plastic refractories are commonly installed by controlled ramming or tamping. Confirm whether the site has suitable tools, compressed air, access, forms, anchoring, experienced labour, and an approved installation procedure. Roofs, arches, and inward-sloping walls can require support or forming that a simple vertical wall repair does not.

Installation quality is part of the lining system. Grade selection cannot compensate for weak preparation, uncontrolled compaction, unsuitable anchors, or an improvised heat-up.

Plan the UAE delivery around the shutdown

Include the destination emirate, required-on-site date, preferred packing, available covered storage, and whether the quantity is firm or provisional. Keep the public enquiry at country or emirate level; exact addresses and shipment documents can be handled privately after qualification.
